On Saturday July 3rd, SOLAR will host a special launch in Baton Rouge at the Tinseltown Launch Site.  In addition to regular launch activities, we will attempt a mass launching of Big Bertha rockets.  For those unfamilar with what a mass launch is, it is a simultaneous launching of several rockets.  See the Photos page for pictures of past Blue Ninja mass launches.  As always, our launches are open to anyone, so if you have a Big Bertha, bring it on out and join in.  If you don't have a Bertha, they are readily available at many hobby stores including Hobby USA on O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge, Hobby Lobby (Baton Rouge has 2 locations), and many online sources (see the Links page).  A group of Scouts is currently planning on joining and there will be a "build session" held during the week prior to the launch for anyone needing help constructing the rocket.  Please contact us if you are interested in attending the build session.  Even if you don't have a Big Bertha to fly, feel free to bring out any rockets you do have and join us, or just come out and watch the launch.

[04/01/2009]  New Launch Site - Luling
Good news regarding launch sites.  SOLAR launches are now being held at a newly discovered larger site near Luling, LA.  Several "test launches" were held and recently the site even hosted a TARC Team for qualification flights.  Obviously the site is capable of handling larger/higher flights than the Tinseltown site.  Reports are that it can definitely handle E and possibly some F powered flights, depending of course on the expected altitude.  See the Launches page for directions to the new field.

[01/01/2008]  New Launch Site Needed
Due to ever increasing encroachment of development surrounding the Tinseltown field, SOLAR is is dire need of a new location for upcoming launches.  The ideal site would be large enough to launch mid-power flights but for now we would settle for something possibly less.  If anyone has an ideas or has contacts with a land owner, please contact one of the officers.  The Section can provide proof of liability insurance if the land owner would like.
